TOPIC:  IRS Notice Season: The Cause & Effect

OBJECTIVE: Course designed to help tax professionals understand the IRS notice process, identify the underlying issues that generate taxpayer correspondence, and develop effective response strategies. This course explores commonly issued IRS notices and letters, including CP14, CP2000, CP501, CP503, CP504, CP90, Letter 1058, and other correspondence related to tax assessments, underreported income, penalties, and collection activity. Participants will examine the relationship between IRS account activity, transcript transaction codes, notice issuance, taxpayer response deadlines, and potential enforcement consequences. Special attention will be given to distinguishing informational notices from notices requiring immediate action, recognizing taxpayer appeal rights, and identifying when collection due process protections may apply.
